Test Notes

NOTE: You should enter this pinpoint test only when you been directed here from diagnostic routines.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the transmission range sensor electrical system only. To prevent the replacement of good components, be aware that the following non-EEC areas may be at fault:
- Battery integrity, ignition switch, starter/relay, harness
- Add-on devices (back-up alarm)
- Transmission shift linkage
- Transmission internal components

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose only the following:
- Harness circuits: SIG RTN, TR
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)





DESCRIPTION
The Transmission Range (TR) sensor is a ratiometric rotary switch mounted on the transmission range selector linkage. It indicates the position of the shift lever by way of a variable resistance.
