THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE. PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.
ISSUE:
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1405 may be stored in memory. This may be caused by exhaust pulsations in the upstream side of the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) hose resulting in DPFE voltage to fluctuate below calibrated parameters, setting the DTC.
ACTION:
Diagnose and repair per the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform EEC-V self test. Use the Pinpoint Test for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems in the 1996 Powertrain Control Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Service Manual.
NOTE:
REGIONAL APPROVAL MUST BE OBTAINED WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE A POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM).
2. Reprogram the PCM. Refer to the PCM Application Chart for the correct calibration.
Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
