Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair





Removal

1. NOTE: Vehicles that have an inoperative A/C compressor due to internal causes, must have the A/C system filtered to prevent damage to the replacement A/C compressor.

NOTE: Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is necessary when the A/C compressor is replaced.

NOTE: The A/C evaporator core orifice should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor is replaced for lack of performance or when there is debris in the system.

Discharge the A/C system.

2. Remove A/C manifold and tube.

3. Remove the three power steering reservoir bolts.

4. Remove drive belt.

5. Disconnect electrical connector from A/C compressor clutch.

6. Remove the power steering hose bracket nut from the A/C compressor stud and remove power steering hose bracket.

7. Remove the A/C compressor bolts and stud from the power steering pump and A/C compressor bracket.

8. Remove the A/C compressor from the power steering pump and A/C compressor bracket.






9. Remove the two A/C compressor heat shield bolts from the rear of the A/C compressor.




Installation

1. Install the two A/C compressor heat shield bolts to rear of A/C compressor. Tighten A/C compressor heat shield bolts to 5.5-8.0 N.m (4-6 lb-ft).

2. Position A/C compressor in the power steering pump and A/9 compressor bracket.

3. Install the A/C compressor bolts and stud. Tighten the A/C compressor bolts and stud to 21.2-28.8 N.m (15.6-21 lb-ft).

4. Install power steering hose bracket on A/C compressor stud. Tighten power steering hose bracket nut to 7.6-10.4 N.m (67-92 lb-in).

5. Install electrical connector to A/C clutch.

6. Install drive belt.

7. Install the power steering oil reservoir bolts. Tighten the power steering oil reservoir bolts to 7.6-10.4 N.m (67-92 lb-in).

8. Install A/C manifold and tube.

9. Charge the A/C system.

10. Operate A/C system to determine if A/C system is operating properly.
