Air Induction System
PurposeTo provide filtered air to the engine to mix with the fuel for combustion purposes.
Components
The air induction system consists of an engine air cleaner intake tube and duct , air cleaner assembly with filter, air cleaner outlet tube, mass airflow sensor, throttle body inlet tube, throttle body and intake plenum.
Throttle Body
The throttle body controls airflow to the engine through a butterfly-type valve. The throttle angle is controlled by multiple-link, progressive opening throttle linkage. The throttle body is a single-piece die casting made of aluminum.
Other features of the throttle body include:
1. A preset stop to locate wide-open throttle (WOT).
2. A throttle position sensor (TP sensor) mounted to the throttle body.
3. Canister purge tap for evaporative emission control.
4. A sealant is applied to the downstream side of the throttle body plate and bore to reduce plate-to-bore airflow at closed plate and to make the throttle body tolerant to sludge accumulations. DO NOT remove or clean this sealant.
5. Closed throttle-stop setscrew.
Intake Manifold
The intake manifold is a two-piece item. Runner lengths are tuned to optimize engine torque and power output.
^ The upper manifold provides mounting flanges for the throttle body, accelerator control brackets and vacuum taps.
^ The lower intake manifold includes the fuel injection supply manifold, fuel injectors, engine coolant system, and thermostat/water outlet.
