Diagnostic Strategies
Inspection and VerificationNOTE: Before starting electrical diagnosis, check for mechanical binds by manually operating all door locks. Then, operate lock system several times from each switch, while observing the operation of all door locks. Be sure battery is fully charged.
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power door locks to duplicate the condition.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply.
Visual Inspection
Mechanical
- binding latch mechanism
- binding linkage
- misaligned door
Electrical
- open fuse 37
- loose connectors
- corroded connectors
3. If inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily serviced, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
4. If a concern remains after the inspection, use Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester, 007-00500 or equivalent, connected to the data link connector (DLC) to retrieve continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and to execute Self Test Diagnostics for the generic electronic module.
5. If self test is passed and no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics.
6. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are retrieved, GO to the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
7. If the generic electronic module can not be accessed by the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester, GO to Pinpoint Test A.
