Early Production

The automatic dimming mirror uses a microprocessor with on-board diagnostic capability. Activation is triggered by sequencing switches on the mirror assembly housing. Signals, from the mirror/autolamp system that the mirror assembly functions properly, shows that all outputs and inputs are working as designed and that the microprocessor is responding correctly.

- With the ignition switch OFF and the transaxle range selector lever in PARK or NEUTRAL, push the buttons auto mirror ON, manual dim and autolamp ON simultaneously. The auto mirror ON, manual dim and autolamp ON indicators blink on and off for 5 seconds.
- If the mirror assembly microprocessor is functioning properly it will proceed to the external diagnostics and the manual dim indicator will go out.
- If the indicators do not blink, then possibly the circuits connected to headlamp switch power input, Pin 2, Circuit 222 (BR/LG) is open or ground, Pin 3, Circuit 57 (BK) is open.
- The following diagnostic tests are for external diagnostics and are in addition to the internal self-test. After the mirror assembly completes the five-second internal self-test, the auto mirror and autolamp pushbutton indicators will blink on and off.
- NOTE: If this procedure is not started within 15 seconds the mirror will default to the power-up state.
- Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. If the manual dim pushbutton indicator does not illuminate steadily and the mirror does not darken, then ignition run input at Pin 1, Circuit 640 (R/Y) is open or disconnected.
- If autolamp status indicator illuminates, autolamp ON pushbutton indicator illuminates steadily and the headlamps do not switch on, then Pin 5, Circuit 218 (W/P) is open or the autolamp relay is disconnected or damaged.
- NOTE: If this procedure is not started within 15 seconds the mirror will default to the power-up state.
- Place the gearshift lever in REVERSE. If the dim pushbutton indicator does not go out and if the mirror does not return to the full bright condition, then the transmission range sensor input, Pin 4, Circuit 140 (BK/PK) is open or the backup lamp circuit is disconnected or damaged.
- After the above tests are complete, the mirror assembly will return to the OFF (all LEDs out) state.
