The automatic dimming mirror uses a microprocessor with on-board diagnostic capability (self test).1. With transaxle range selector lever in PARK or NEUTRAL, ignition switch OFF and auto lamp switch OFF, press button in lower edge of mirror and hold for three seconds.
- Mirror will execute internal self test then turn on autolamp indicator and headlamps.
- If internal self test fails, indicator off after 3 seconds, check mirror connector Pin 4, Circuit 57 (BK) and Pin 5, Circuit 221(O/W) for open circuits.
- If headlamps do not turn ON, Pin 2, Circuit 218(W/P) is open or the auto lamp relay is bad.
NOTE: Internal self test is activated by pressing a button inside the mirror housing. The button is accessed through a hole on the bottom edge of the mirror housing.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
- Automatic dimming mirror will darken and headlamps will turn OFF.
- If headlamps remain ON or mirror does not darken, Pin 6, Circuit 640 (R/Y) is open or Pin 3, Circuit 140 (BK/PK) is shorted to battery.
NOTE: If the following external self test is not started within ten seconds, the mirror will exit self test mode.
3. Put transaxle into REVERSE.
- Darkened mirror will return to full bright condition.
- If mirror does not brighten, Pin 3, Circuit 140 (BK/PK) is open or backup lamps are disconnected.
Mirror will exit self test when reverse input test is completed, autolamp indicator will turn OFF.
