Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the vehicle owner's concern by operating the engine cooling system.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
a. Mechanical
^ Damaged hoses.
^ Loose/damaged hose clamps.
^ Damaged water thermostat.
^ Damaged cylinder head gasket.
^ Damaged intake manifold gaskets.
^ Damaged water pump.
^ Damaged radiator.
^ Damaged radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
^ Damaged heater core.
b. Electrical
^ Circuitry open/shorted.
^ Damaged [1][2]constant control relay module.
^ Damaged engine cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly.

3. If inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and go to the Symptom Chart.
