Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Separate upper and lower speedometer cable (if equipped) on left side of engine compartment below brake master cylinder and unclip speedometer cable from shift cable bracket.
3. Raise and suitably support vehicle on hoist.
4. Disconnect two heated oxygen sensor and two catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
Install Exhaust Connector Holder T94T-6000-AH to prevent undue stress on flexible portion of flex pipe. Offset the tool strap bolts so that the two flex pipe-to-Y pipe bolts are accessible and tighten tool bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
CAUTION: Failure to use the Exhaust Connector Holder T94T-6000-AH may result in leakage and reduced life of flex pipe.
5. Remove two flex pipe-to-Y pipe bolts.
6. Remove Y pipe-to-transaxle case bracket bolt and nut.
7. Remove four Y pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts and remove Y pipe assembly from vehicle.
8. Carefully remove three push nuts and transaxle heat shield from transaxle.
WARNING: HEAT SHIELD HAS SHARP EDGES. THE USE OF GLOVES IS RECOMMENDED DURING HEAT SHIELD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY.
9. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
10. Remove vehicle speed sensor retaining bolt.
11. Remove vehicle speed sensor from fluid cooler tube.
12. Disconnect speedometer cable (if equipped) and remove VSS from transaxle.
INSTALLATION
1. Connect speedometer cable (if equipped) to vehicle speed sensor.
2. Install VSS into fluid cooler tube and secure with vehicle speed sensor retaining bolt. Tighten bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
3. Connect vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
4. Install transaxle heat shield and secure with three push nuts.
WARNING: HEAT SHIELD HAS SHARP EDGES. THE USE OF GLOVES IS RECOMMENDED DURING HEAT SHIELD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY.
5. Install Y pipe assembly to vehicle and secure with four Y pipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts. Tighten nut to 34-46 Nm (25-33 ft. lbs.).
6. Install Y pipe-to-transaxle case bracket bolt and nut. Tighten bolt and nut to 34-46 Nm (25-33 ft. lbs.).
7. Install two flex pipe-to-Y pipe bolts. Tighten bolts to 34-46 Nm (25-33 ft. lbs.).
8. Remove Exhaust Connector Holder T94T-6000-AH or equivalent from flex pipe.
9. Connect two heated oxygen sensor and two catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.
10. Lower vehicle.
11. Connect upper and lower speedometer cables (if equipped) on LH side of engine compartment below brake master cylinder and attach speedometer cable to shift cable bracket.
12. Connect battery ground cable.
