ISSUE:
A stall during tip-in after a short idle period may occur on some vehicles with 7.3L DIT engine. This may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration.
ACTION:
Reprogram the PCM. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform normal diagnostics found in the 1997 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD-II) Service Manual and service as required.
2. If the concern still exists, reprogram the PCM using the Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS) or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. Refer to the following PCM Application Chart for correct calibration upgrade.
Obtain an Authorized Modification Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
