Midship Fuel Tank


WARNING:
- When draining the fuel from the fuel tank, keep spark, smoking materials, and open flames away from the vehicle.
- The fuel system contains pressurized fuel after the vehicle is shut down and will maintain this pressure for a long period of time.

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. On vehicles equipped with dual batteries, use proper cable disconnect procedures.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Perform fuel pressure release.
3. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.





5. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe hose and filler pipe vent tube.





6. Position the jack under the fuel tank.





7. Remove the two fuel tank support strap nuts and remove the two fuel tank support straps.





8. Partially lower the fuel tank.





9. Disconnect tile fuel tank connections.
- Disconnect the evaporative emission return tubes.
- Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.





10. Disconnect the fuel tubes and electrical connector from the fuel pump.
- Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
- Disconnect the fuel tubes.





11. Lower the fuel tank.

INSTALLATION

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
- Tighten fuel tank support strap nuts to 17-23 Nm (13-17 lb ft).
