Steering Effort Check


NOTE: Make sure the front wheels are properly aligned and tire pressure is correct before checking turning effort.

1. Set the parking brake, then start the engine and idle for approximately three minutes.
2. Turn the steering wheel to the left and right several times to warm the fluid to 43-49° C (109-120° F).





3. Attach a Spring Scale to the rim of the steering wheel. Measure the pull required to turn the steering wheel one complete revolution in each direction. If the reading exceeds 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.), refer to Excessive Steering Effort in the symptom chart.Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
