Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system in question.
2. Visually inspect the mechanical and electrical components.
Mechanical
- Damaged engine oil filter.
- Damaged oil pump.
- Low engine oil level.
- Stuck oil pressure gauge needle.
- Stuck coolant temperature gauge.
- Door adjustment.
- Tripped inertia fuel shutoff switch.
- Engine coolant level.
- Water thermostat.
Electrical
- Blown fuse(s).
- Damaged miniature bulbs.
- Damaged wiring harness.
- Loose or corroded connectors.
- Damaged Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).
- Damaged instrument cluster.
3. Verify the following systems are working properly:
- Charging system.
- Fuel system.
- Cooling system.
- Safety belt warning chime.
- Turn signals.
- Headlamps.
- Anti-theft.
If the system(s) are not working properly, repair and retest for proper operation.
4. Check the wiring harness for obvious signs of shorts, opens, bad connections, or damage.
5. If the concern is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Charts. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
