Camshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CAUTION: Syncro Positioning Tool T96T-12200-A (303-562) must be obtained prior to installation of the replacement synchronizer assembly. Failure to follow this procedure will result in the fuel system being out of time with the engine, possibly causing engine damage.

REMOVAL






1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.






2. Remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.
1 Disconnect the CMP electrical connector.
2 Remove the screws.

3. Remove the CMP sensor.

INSTALLATION






CAUTION: Insure that the CMP sensor is properly positioned.

1. Install the CMP sensor.
1 Position the CMP sensor.
2 Install the screws.

2. Connect the CMP electrical connector.






3. Connect the battery ground cable.
