Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Test Notes

Normal Operation
Under normal circumstances, the air bag diagnostic monitor expects no circuit on C232-17 of the air bag diagnostic monitor. This feature was replaced with the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester, and the memory clear connector should have been removed from the system. However, some vehicles have maintained the memory clear connector for redundancy. The memory clear circuit was used to clear the air bag diagnostic module's nonvolatile random access memory contents and retrieve stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) by temporarily shorting C232-17 to ground. If C232-17 is improperly shorted to ground, the air bag diagnostic monitor will store in memory a DTC B1923 and flash Lamp Fault Code (LFC) 23 on the air bag indicator.

- Should the short on C232-17 to ground be repaired or intermittent, the air bag diagnostic monitor will store a DTC B1923 in memory.

Possible Causes
Improper grounding of the memory clear circuit can be caused by a short to ground on circuit 631 (T/R) which can cause improper memory clear grounding.
