Starter Motor Relay

Measure the resistance between starter motor relay terminal 1, and starter motor relay housing. The resistance should indicate less than 1 ohm. If the resistance is greater than 1 ohm, clean any corrosion at the starter relay mounting points, or replace the starter motor relay if necessary. If the resistance is less than 1 ohm, measure the resistance between starter motor relay terminals 2 and 3. The resistance should indicate infinite (open). If the resistance does not indicate infinite (open), replace the starter motor relay. If the resistance is infinite (open), measure resistance between the starter motor relay terminals 2 and 3, while applying B+ to the starter motor relay terminal 1. The resistance should indicate less than 5 ohms. If the resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace the starter motor relay. If the resistance is less than 5 ohms, GO to the Starting System Symptom Chart for the correct Pinpoint Tests. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
