Shift Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
(1) Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
(2) Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column bracket.
2. Push the rubber grommet and shift cable through the bulkhead.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY TO THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM MUST BE SHUT OFF PRIOR TO HOISTING, JACKING OR TOWING AN AIR SUSPENSION VEHICLE. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TURNING OFF THE AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED IN THE REAR JACK STORAGE AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN UNEXPECTED INFLATION OR DEFLATION OF THE AIR SPRINGS WHICH MAY RESULT IN SHIFTING OF THE VEHICLE DURING THESE OPERATIONS.
4. Remove the transmission shift cable from the transmission.
(1) Disconnect the shift cable from the manual control lever.
(2) Depress the lock tabs to release the shift cable and disconnect the shift cable from the shift cable bracket.
5. Remove the transmission shift cable bracket from the automatic transmission.
(1) Remove the two transmission shift cable bracket bolts.
(2) Remove the transmission shift cable bracket.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Adjust the transmission shift cable.
NOTE: If equipped with air suspension, reactivate the system by turning on the air suspension switch.
