Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Rotating Torque Check

ROTATING TORQUE CHECK

NOTE: The rotational torque of a used A/C compressor should be checked if excessive A/C compressor drag is suspected. It may be necessary to remove the A/C compressor from the vehicle for this test.

1. Remove refrigerant from the system. Observe all safety precautions.
2. Remove the refrigerant hose and manifold assembly from the A/C compressor. Use care not to allow dirt to enter the A/C compressor.
3. With condenser to evaporator tube disengaged, rotate the A/C compressor shaft and note the torque required to rotate the A/C compressor shaft one complete revolution, not the starting torque.
4. If the rotational torque exceeds 10 N.m (7 lb-ft), replace the A/C compressor.
5. If the rotational torque is less than the specified rotational torque, excessive drag does not exist in the A/C compressor. Install the refrigerant hose and manifold assembly and leak test, evacuate and charge the system. Refrigerant Recovery
6. Check the system for proper operation.
