Installation


1. Position the transmission onto Hi-Lift Jack.
2. Raise and position the transmission.





3. Install the five engine to transmission bolts.





4. Install the three oil pan to transmission bolts.





5. Install the front fuel line bracket and bolt.





6. Install the fuel line rear bracket.
(1) Position the fuel line bracket.
(2) Install the nut.





7. Install the exhaust bracket.
(1) Position the exhaust bracket.
(2) Install the two nuts.





8. Install the transmission mount.
(1) Position the transmission mount.
(2) Install the two bolts.





9. Install the rear crossmember.
(1) Position the crossmember.
(2) Install the six bolts.





10. Install the two heat shield bolts.





11. Install the two transmission mount nuts.
12. Remove Hi-Lift Jack.





13. Connect the two heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor electrical connectors.
14. Install the starter.





15. Install the rear driveshaft.
(1) Position the rear driveshaft.
(2) Install the four bolts.





16. Position the exhaust pipe and install the four exhaust pipe nuts (two each side).





17. Connect the hydraulic clutch line.





18. Fill the transmission with (A) transmission fluid until it reaches the bottom of the (B) fill port and install the (C) case plug.
- Use Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or DDX or equivalent MERCON automatic transmission fluid. MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.

19. Lower the vehicle.

NOTE: If equipped with air suspension, reactivate the system by turning on the air suspension switch.

20. Install the shift lever.





21. Connect the transmission harness electrical connector.
(1) Connect the electrical connector.
(2) Install the bolt.

22. Connect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.
