Safety Recall 96S49 - Certain 1996 Model Year Aerostar, Ranger, Bronco, Explorer, F-Series Trucks and Certain 1997 Model Year F-150 Series Trucks - Rear Tire Pressure Designation on the Safety Certification Label
Affected Vehicles
Certain 1996 model year Aerostar, F-Series, Bronco, Explorer and Ranger trucks and certain 1997 model year F-150 Series trucks. Build dates are not available, check OASIS for affected vehicles.
Reasons For Recall
The Safety Certification Label on the affected vehicles have incorrect rear tire inflation pressure designations. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120 requires that a label affixed to the vehicle show the tire size designation and recommended inflation pressure for those tires, such that the tires on each axle are appropriate for the GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) indicated on the label.
To correct this condition, a supplementary tire information label and installation instructions will be mailed to the vehicle owner for installation. The owner will also be informed that a Ford dealer will affix the label if preferred.
