LIGHT TRUCK:
1997 F-150
ISSUE:
An "open" Fuse 14 and non-functioning interior lamps and power windows/door locks may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by the inside door handle mechanism chafing the -14A005- wire harness.
ACTION:
Reposition the wire harness and repair chafed wire. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to the 1997 F-150 Workshop Manual, Page 501-05-9.
2. Disconnect door latch rod from the inside door handle mechanism.
3. Carefully remove the watershield.
4. Inspect wiring harness at the door handle (Figure 1).
5. Remove harness locator from the inside door panel (Figure 2).
6. Repair or replace chafed and damaged wires as necessary.
7. Drill a 6.35 mm (0.25") hole 15 mm left and 7 mm down from the center of the old locator hole (Figure 2).
8. Install harness locator in the new hole and verify clearance of harness to door handle latch mechanism.
9. Install watershield and door latch rod to inside door handle mechanism.
10. Install door trim panel. Refer to the 1997 F-150 Workshop Manual, Page 501-05-12.
