ISSUE:
Repeat repairs may be made to 4-Wheel Anti-lock Braking Systems (4WABS) on some vehicles. This may occur due to misdiagnosis of 4WABS concerns which may result in replacement of functional components.

ACTION:
Ford Motor Company has started a new technical assistance program beginning 4/1/96, to provide dealership technicians with help in diagnosing 4WABS brake repairs. This program emphasizes accurate concern definition and encourages the technician to call the National Hotline after initial diagnosis, but before they begin a repair. The technician's call will be routed directly to specialists in resolving ABS braking concerns for the vehicles listed. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Beginning 4/1/96, if you receive one of the indicated vehicles with the ABS brake indicator lamp on, or if you are planning to make a repair to the ABS portion of the brake system, please do so as follows:

^ As part of the preliminary diagnosis, and before you replace any parts, call the National HOTLINE, (800) 826-4694. You will be directed to press certain keys on the phone pad to divert your call to the ABS Brake Hotline specialists. Discuss your diagnosis of the problem and receive assistance.
