Installation

INSTALLATION





1. Align and position the instrument panel with the clips in the sheet metal.





2. Connect the air bag diagnostic monitor electrical connectors.





3. Connect the inertia fuel shutoff switch electrical connector.





4. Connect the bulkhead electrical connector harness.





5. Install the bulkhead wiring harness from inside the engine compartment.





6. Install both instrument panel bolts behind the passenger side air bag module opening.
^ Install the RH side first.





7. Install the instrument panel bolt on the bottom LH side of the instrument cluster opening.





8. Install the instrument panel bolt on the bottom RH side of the instrument cluster opening.
9. Install the instrument panel bolt under the center of the steering column opening.





10. Install the instrument panel nut on the bottom LH comer of the instrument panel.





11. Install the instrument panel nut on the bottom RH comer of the instrument panel.





12. Install the two instrument panel bolts on the top of the instrument panel.

1. Install the two bolts.
2. Install the two covers.





13. Install the instrument panel bolt on the relay bracket.





14. Install the instrument panel bolt below and to the left of the cigar lighter and power point.





15. Install the instrument panel bolt below and to the left of the glove compartment.





16. Install the instrument panel nut on the RH floor brace.





17. Connect the radio ground and the GEM/CTM ground.





18. Connect the three instrument panel main harness connectors.





19. Connect the brake on/off switch electrical connector.





20. Install the two grounds.





21. Install the LH and RH cowl side trim panels.





22. Install the LH and RH scuff plates.





23. Install the RH windshield side garnish moulding.





24. Position the RH assist handle.





25. Install the four RH assist handle screws.





26. Install the four RH assist handle screw covers.





27. Install the passenger side air bag module.
1. Position the passenger side air bag module.
2. Install the three bolts.
3. Connect the electrical connector.

WARNING:
^ NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAGS. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, WHICH COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
^ ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SERVICING AN AIR BAG VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG.
^ CARRY A LIVE AIR BAG WITH THE BAG AND TRIM COVER POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH A MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.






28. Position the glove compartment and reclip the two door stops.





29. Install the instrument panel relay cover.
1. Connect the autolamp sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
2. Install the instrument panel relay cover





30. Position the steering column.
^ Install the four steering column support nuts





31. Install the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1. Position the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
2. Install the four instrument panel steering column opening reinforcement nuts.





32. Connect the (A) air bag sliding contact electrical connectors and the (B) anti-theft sensor electrical connector.





33. Connect the remaining electrical connectors on the steering column.
34. Install the radio chassis.
^ Connect the five radio antenna clips.





35. Connect the electronic actuator electrical connector.





36. Connect the climate control head vacuum line connector.





37. Install the upper instrument panel steering column cover.
1. Position the upper instrument panel steering column cover.
2. Install the bolts.





38. Install the instrument panel floor duct panel.





39. Install the parking brake release handle.
1. Position the parking brake release handle.
2. Install the two parking brake release handle screws.





40. Install the hood latch release handle.
1. Position the hood latch release handle.
2. Install the two hood latch release handle screws.





41. Carefully press the (A) three clips and install the (B) lower instrument panel fuse door.





42. Carefully press the (A) four clips and install the (B) steering column opening cover.





43. Install the battery cables.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
