Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer concern by following these steps:1. Place the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Place the headlamp switch to the ON position.
3. Verify the low beam operation.
4. Place the multi-function switch to the high beam position.
5. Verify the high beam operation.
6. Check the high beam indicator.
7. Place the multi-function switch to the OFF position.
8. Place the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
9. Verify the daytime running lamp system operation:
^ Place the ignition switch to the RUN position.
^ Verify the headlamps are on at reduced intensity.
NOTE: Refer to Lighting and Horns for headlamp concern before checking the daytime running lamps.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
MECHANICAL
^ Damaged headlamp bulb
ELECTRICAL
^ Blown fuse(s)
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connector(s)
^ Circuitry open/shorted
^ Damaged ignition switch
^ Damaged daytime running lamp control
^ Damaged parking brake switch and bracket
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, repair as required.
4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and go to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
