Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Inspection and Verification
NOTE: Many customers do not understand the limitations of FM reception. Refer the customer to the Owner Guide for information about the limitations of FM radio performance.
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the audio system to duplicate the condition.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
- Radio chassis with or without tape player physically damaged, mis aligned, any controls inoperative.
- Digital audio Compact disc player chassis physically damaged, mis aligned, any controls inoperative.
- Antenna and two-piece antenna cable physically damaged, mis aligned connections.
- Radio speakers mounting/speaker cones physically damaged, mis aligned.
- Radio ignition interference capacitor, radio frequency interference suppression bond and radio receiver hood bonding strap mis aligned, unclean and no metal-to-metal contact.
Electrical
- Open fuses: fuse junction panel Fuse 8 (1OA), Fuse 11(15A), power distribution box fuse AUDIO (25A).
- Open connectors.
- corroded connectors.
3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required.
4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

- Electronic Search Radio (ESR)
- Electronic Search Cassette (ESC)
- Premium Analog Cassette (PAC)
