Oil Pan: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.





3. Remove the six crossmember bolts. Remove the crossmember.





4. Remove the three exhaust inlet pipe nuts.
5. Lower the exhaust system to gain access to the oil pan bolts.
6. Remove the oil pan bolts and remove the oil pan.
7. Clean any of the old sealant material from the oil pan-to-cylinder block mating surfaces.

NOTE: Identify the oil pan bolts with their respective holes in the cylinder block to ease installation.

INSTALLATION
1. Remove the old sealant from the threads of the oil pan bolts and the bolt holes in the cylinder block.

CAUTION: Failure to remove the old sealant from the oil pan bolts and bolt holes may cause the cylinder block to crack.





2. Apply a continuous bead of silicone sealant to the oil pan, on the inside of the bolt holes.

NOTE: Be sure to install the oil pan within five minutes after applying the sealant. Make sure the oil pan-to-cylinder block mating surfaces are free of old sealant and any oil or dirt.





3. Install the oil pan. Tighten oil pan bolts A to 19-25 Nm (14-18 ft. lbs.) and oil pan bolts B to 8-10 Nm (71-88 inch lbs.).
4. Install the front and rear exhaust inlet pipes with exhaust converter inlet pipe gaskets. Tighten the three exhaust inlet pipe nuts on each pipe to 40-55 Nm (30-41 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the HO2S electrical connectors.
6. Install the crossmember. Tighten the crossmember bolts to 94-126 Nm (69-93 ft. lbs.).
7. Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 30-41 Nm (22-30 ft. lbs.).
8. Add the specified an1ount and type of engine oil.
