Mechanical Test

NOTE: If a binding condition occurs, turn the steering wheel left or right to release any possible load on the ignition switch and verify the ignition key is cut properly.

1. Inspect the ignition switch and the ignition switch lock cylinder for signs of binding.
2. Inspect the ignition/shifter interlock cable from the gearshift lever to the ignition switch for kinks or damage which would cause binding.
3. If any components are damaged or show signs of binding, repair or replace them as necessary. Otherwise, return to diagnosis by symptom.
