Disassembly

1. Mount the transaxle on Bench Mounted Holding Fixture T57L-500-B.
2. Remove the drain-plug and drain any remaining transmission fluid from the transaxle case.
3. Remove the nine case cover bolts and carefully pry the case cover from the transaxle case.
4. Shift the transaxle into first gear to lock the input shaft assembly and the output shaft assembly.

5. Use Input Shaft Holder T88C-7025-GH to hold the input shaft.

6. While holding Input Shaft Holder T88C-7025-GH, uncrimp the input shaft locknut tabs, then remove the shaft locknut. Place the shaft locknut aside.

NOTE: Save the input and output shaft locknuts to be used in the differential bearing preload procedure later.

7. While holding Input Shaft Holder T88C-7025-GH, uncrimp the output shaft locknut tabs, then remove the shaft locknut. Place the shaft locknut aside.

8. Use a punch to remove the roll pin from the fifth/reverse gear shifter fork. Discard the roll pin.
9. Remove Input Shaft Holder T88C-7025-GH.
10. Remove the input synchronizer spacer from the top of the input reverse synchronizer gear.

11. Remove the input reverse synchronizer gear.

12. Remove the synchronizer blocking ring.

13. Remove the output reverse synchronizer gear.

14. Remove the fifth/reverse gear shifter fork and the synchronizer from the input shaft.

15. Remove the synchronizer blocking ring from the input shaft.

16. Remove the fifth speed cluster gear from the input shaft.

17. Remove the fifth speed cluster gear sleeve from the input shaft.

18. Remove the fifth speed gear from the output shaft.

19. Remove the reverse idler shaft lock bolt from the transaxle case.

20. Remove the shift rail rear pin from the transaxle case.

21. Remove the detent spring screw, shifter interlock spring and the ball from the transaxle case.

NOTE: If the ball cannot be removed at this time, it may be removed when the transaxle case is removed from the flywheel housing.

22. Remove the backup lamp switch from the transaxle case. Discard the copper washer.

23. Remove the park/neutral position switch (PNP switch) from the flywheel housing. Discard the copper washer.
24. Remove the fifteen transaxle case-to-flywheel housing bolts and the transaxle case-to-flywheel housing retainer, and carefully pry the transaxle case and the flywheel housing apart.

NOTE: When the transaxle case and the flywheel housing are separated, the ball from the transaxle case may fall into the bottom of the flywheel housing.

25. Remove the oil pan magnet from the side of the flywheel housing.

26. Remove the reverse idler gear and bushing and the reverse idler gear shaft from the flywheel housing.

27. Remove the shift gate bolt from the fifth/reverse shift gate.
28. Remove the fifth/reverse shift control shaft.
29. Remove the fifth/reverse shift gate.

30. Remove the roll pin from the shift lever shaft. Discard the roll pin.

NOTE: The roll pin inserts into the shift lever shaft through the flywheel housing.

31. Carefully pry the shift lever shaft from the flywheel housing.
32. Remove the shift fork selector lever from the shift lever shaft.

33. Remove the two case vent bolts and the case vent.
34. Remove the vent.

35. Remove the third/fourth gear shifter fork and main shift control shaft along with the input shaft and output shaft assemblies.
36. Remove the differential from the flywheel housing.

37. Remove the two control selector plate bolts, then the control selector plate and the reverse idler gear spacer.

38. Remove the bolt attaching the input shift shaft selector plate arm to the input shift shaft.
