Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove the two nuts and two bolts attaching Three-Way Catalytic (TWC)converter to muffler and muffler outlet pipe. On long wheelbase models, remove the exhaust catalyst converter-to-rear engine mount U-bolt.
2. Remove two bolts attaching TWC converter to the exhaust manifold.
3. Remove the TWC converter from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Install TWC converter onto exhaust manifold studs and loosely secure in place.
2. Install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between TWC converter and muffler and muffler outlet pipe.
3. Tighten the converter-to-muffler flange exhaust pipe flange hold down spring to 37-5O N.m (27-37 ft lb).
4. Position the exhaust outlet pipe frame bracket so the rod is aligned throughout the entire length of the exhaust outlet pipe frame bracket. Tighten nuts to 20-27 N.m (15-20 ft lb) while maintaining alignment.
5. Tighten the exhaust manifold connection by alternately tightening the manifold bolts to 34-46 N.m (25-34 ft lb).
