Battery
REMOVAL1. Remove battery cables and heat shield from battery.
2. Remove battery hold down clamp.
3. Remove battery from vehicle.
CAUTION: When lifting a plastic-cased battery, excessive pressure on the end walls could cause acid to spew through the vent caps, resulting in personal injury, damage to the vehicle or battery. Lift with a battery carrier or with your hands on opposite corners.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean cable terminals and battery hold down clamp with a wire brush. Replace all cables or parts that are worn or frayed.
NOTE: The battery terminal cleaning operation shown in the following illustration is typical for all vehicles.
2. Clean battery tray with a wire brush and scraper.
3. Place battery in battery tray, install battery heat shield, and install positive and negative terminals in same position as previous battery.
4. Assemble and tighten battery hold down clamp so battery is secure. Do not tighten excessively.
5. Secure cables (battery to starter relay cable first) to proper terminals. Tighten to 7-10 Nm (5-7 Lb-Ft). Apply petroleum jelly to terminals.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal driving symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
