TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS
- Install crankshaft as follows:
NOTE: Scratching of the crankshaft journal can be prevented by covering the connecting rod bolts with spark plug boots.
a. Install main bearing inserts in the cylinder block. Note that third bearing from front is the thrust bearing.
b. Lubricate bearing inserts with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C8Q-A heavy engine oil, and carefully lower the crankshaft into place. Use care to prevent damage to bearing surfaces.
c. Apply a 6 mm (1/4-inch) dot of Gasket Eliminator E1FZ-19562-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G348-A4 between rear cap and cylinder block (two places).
d. Install crankshaft main bearing and crankshaft thrust main bearing in the main caps and install caps. Note that caps are numbered with arrow heads. No. 1 is located at front of engine with arrow heads facing front of engine.
e. Install crankshaft main bearing cap studs.
f. Wedge a large screwdriver between cylinder block web and crankshaft cheek located in front of the No. 3 main bearing before tightening bearing cap attaching bolts. Do not jam the screwdriver into place. Tap into position only enough to hold the crankshaft forward while the cap bolts are tightened.
g. Tighten crankshaft main bearing cap studs to 75-85 Nm (55-63 ft. lbs.) and remove screwdriver.
