Impact Sensor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL and INSTALLATION1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect battery to starter relay cable and wait one minute for the backup power supply to be depleted.
WARNING: The electrical circuit necessary for system deployment is powered directly from the battery. To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the positive battery cable must be disconnected prior to servicing or replacing any system components.
NOTE: To service stripped outboard sensor retaining screws, replace the sensor bracket with bracket Part No. 14B190 RH, 14B191 LH, screw Part No. N806327-S 190 (2 req'd) and nut Part No W620397-S36 (2 req'd). Tighten to 10.8-13.5 Nm (8-10 lb ft).
3. Remove radiator grille and radiator opening cover.
4. Remove two radiator primary crash front air bag sensor and bracket screws. (Remove three front air bag sensor and bracket screws for RH crash sensor only.)
5. Disconnect LH radiator primary crash front air bag sensor and bracket electrical connector and remove radiator primary crash front air bag sensor and bracket.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Prove out air bag system. Tighten screws to 10.8-13.5 Nm (8-10 lb ft).
