Heater Core Temperature Sensor / Switch: Service and Repair

TEMPERATURE CONTROL LOCKOUT VALVE AND SWITCH




Removal

NOTE: The temperature control lockout valve and switch screws into a fitting in the heater core inlet tube in the engine compartment.

1. To replace the temperature control lockout valve and switch, disconnect the two wire connectors from the receptacle in the temperature control lockout valve and switch.
2. Partially drain the coolant from the radiator.
3. Unscrew the switch body from the fitting in the heater inlet tube.

Installation
1. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-AZ and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads in the replacement temperature control lockout valve and switch and install it in the fitting. Tighten the temperature control lockout valve and switch to 11-16 N.m (9-11 lb-ft).
2. Attach the electrical connector to the top of the temperature control lockout valve and switch.
3. Refill the radiator with specified coolant.
