Tightening Specifications

NOTE: Follow the proper tightening procedure for the bearing cap removed. Lubricate bearing surfaces with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.

Lubricate bearing surface with Engine Assembly Lubricant and install crankshaft main bearing cap with bolt and finger-tighten.

Pry crankshaft forward against thrust surface on upper crankshaft thrust main bearing, while holding bearing cap to the rear. This aligns thrust rear surfaces on both halves of the crankshaft thrust main bearing.

Tighten retaining bolts in sequence, in two steps:
Step 1 ... Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
Step 2 ... Rotate an additional 115-125°.
