Rear Service Notes
Observe the following precautions when servicing the rear disc brake system:^ When removing the rear disc brake caliper, never allow it to hang from the rear brake hose. Provide a suitable support.
^ Replace the rear brake shoes and linings when they are worn to a thickness of 3.12 mm (0.125 in).
^ Always replace the rear brake shoes and linings in full axle sets. Never replace on one side of the vehicle only.
^ Make sure anti-wear slippers are installed on anchor plate rail abutments prior to installing the caliper assembly. Trapped shoe and linings in the caliper assembly MUST be used with the slippers (2 per anchor plate), installed on the rails.
^ Do not allow grease, oil, brake fluid or other contaminants to contact the rear brake shoe lining material. Contaminated brake shoe and linings must be replaced.
^ Use care not to damage the wheel cylinder bleeder screw or rear wheel disc brake shield.
^ During installation, make sure all components are properly aligned and fasteners are tightened to torque specifications.
^ If caliper piston is removed for any reason the piston seal and dust boot must be replaced.
^ After any service, pump the brake pedal to obtain a firm brake pedal before moving the vehicle.
