Cylinder Wall Honing

1. Hone with Engine Cylinder Hone Set, at a speed of 300-500 rpm and a hone grit of 180-220, to provide the desired cylinder bore surface finish of 18-38 AA. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer.

CAUTION:
- After the final honing and prior to checking the piston fit, thoroughly clean the cylinder bore with a detergent and water solution. Then lightly coat the cylinder bore with Super Premium SAE 10W30 Motor Oil XO-1OW30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
- When honing the cylinder bores, use a lubricant mixture of equal parts of kerosene and Super Premium SAE 10W30 Motor Oil XO-1OW30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.

NOTE:
- Before any cylinder bore is honed, all main bearing caps must be installed so that the crankshaft bearing bores will not become distorted.
- To correct taper or out-of-round, bore the cylinder block.
- Honing should be done when fitting new piston rings or removing minor surface imperfections.
