Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
3. Remove the multi-function switch.
4. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
5. Remove the (A) bolt and position the (B) bracket and ignition/shifter interlock cable aside.
6. Groove the heads of the break-away bolts with a hammer and chisel.
7. Remove the (A) break-away bolts, the (B) ignition switch lock cylinder, and the (C) bracket.
- Discard the break-away bolts.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the ignition switch lock cylinder and bracket and loosely install the two new break-away bolts.
- Tighten the bolts only enough to hold the ignition switch lock cylinder in place.
- With the key in the ignition, verify the operation of the ignition switch lock cylinder.
- If necessary, reposition the ignition switch lock cylinder until it operates properly.
2. Tighten the ignition switch lock cylinder bracket break-away bolts until the bolt heads break off.
3. Install the ignition/shifter interlock cable and the mounting bracket bolt.
4. Connect the ignition switch electrical connector.
5. Install the multi-function switch.
6. Install the steering wheel.
7. Inspect the shift interlock system.
