Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait one minute for the air bag backup power supply to be depleted.

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT REPAIR IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.





2. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.





3. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connectors.





4. Remove the (A) screw and remove the (B) ignition switch electrical connector cover.





5. Remove the two ignition key reminder switch screws.

NOTE: The ignition key reminder switch is an integral part of the ignition switch and cannot be replaced separately.





6. Remove the ignition switch.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mile) or more to relearn its strategy.
