KEY-IN IGNITION/DOOR OPEN WARNING CHIME MODIFICATION

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
CERTAIN 1998 MODEL YEAR LIMITED EDITION/EDDIE BAUER EXPLORERS

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Record radio stations.

2. Disconnect both battery positive and negative cables.

3. Remove lower steering column finish panel.

4. Remove instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.





5. Remove 8-way connector from it's mounting. See Figure 1.

6. Disconnect halves of 8-way connector.





7. Remove locking wedge from 8-way connector. See Figure 2.





8. Insert pin end of supplied ground strap in 8-way connector. See Figure 3.

9. Install locking wedge into 8-way connector.

10. Connect halves of 8-way connector.

11. Install 8-way connector in it's mounting.





12. Attach other end of ground strap using supplied screw, in location shown in Figure 4.

13. Install instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement. Tighten screws to 7-10 Nm (68-92 lb/in).

14. Install lower steering column finish panel. Tighten screws to 2.1-2.9 Nm (19-25 lb/in).

15. Connect both battery positive and negative cables.

16. Reprogram radio stations.
