Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Description and Operation

With Tachometer

Without Tachometer

The instrument cluster is centered above the steering column in the instrument panel. The instrument cluster provides information on vehicle operation. The gauges in the instrument cluster include: temperature gauge which receives its signal from a temperature sensor located in the intake manifold, oil pressure gauge which receives its signal from an oil pressure sending unit located on the left hand side of the engine near the oil filter, and a voltmeter which is connected to the charging system. A speedometer with an odometer and a trip odometer which receive information from the Vehicle Speed Sensors (VSS) as well as a tachometer, if equipped, are included.

The instrument cluster also has instrument panel lamp socket and bulbs used for illumination and warning indicator lamps. The optional anti-theft indicator uses a long life Light Emitting Diode (LED). The instrument cluster also includes fuel anti-slosh electronics. The low oil pressure and coolant temperature warning indicator is illuminated by one lamp.

The instrument cluster gauges are not replaceable separately. The instrument cluster illumination lamps, warning indicator lamps and the instrument cluster lens are the only replaceable parts.
