Initial Inspection

1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage using the following chart:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

MECHANICAL
^ Damaged air bag diagnostic monitor bracket
^ Loosely mounted air bag connectors sensors

ELECTRICAL
^ Blown fuse(s)
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded
^ Circuitry open/shorted

3. If the concern is not visually evident, use the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and perform the the on-demand self test. Procedures
4. If the on-demand self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the symptom chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
