Ignition System: Description and Operation
The Electronic Ignition (EI) system consists of the following components:
- Ignition coil
- Spark plugs
- Spark plug wires
- Radio ignition interference capacitor
The ignition coil:
- is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
- each ignition coil fires two spark plugs.
The spark plug:
- ignites the fuel and air mixture
- is different for the RH and LH sides.
The spark plug wire:
- carries high voltage pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.
