Radio - Poor Reception/Antenna Broken

RADIO - POOR RADIO RECEPTION
LIGHT TRUCK:
1996-98 RANGER
ISSUE
The radio may have poor radio reception and or the radio antenna may break/fall off its mount on some vehicles. This may be caused by the radio antenna not being properly torqued.
ACTION
Torque radio antenna to proper specification. Making a good contact and properly securing the antenna to the vehicle should reduce the possibility of poor reception. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify that existing radio antenna is properly fastened to the fender mount.
2. If not properly fastened, seat antenna to proper torque specification of 3 N-m (30 lb-in).
NOTE
THE RADIO ANTENNA SHOULD BE TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION EVERY TIME IT IS REMOVED. REFER TO THE 1998 RANGER SERVICE MANUAL FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES. OVER- OR UNDER-TORQUING MAY RESULT IN POOR RADIO RECEPTION AND/OR THE ANTENNA BREAKING/FALLING OFF ITS MOUNT.
