ISSUE

Some vehicles may exhibit any or all of the following conditions: front end rattle, corrosion around the battery tray area, no start and/or dead battery "0" volts. This may be caused by weld burrs from the battery tray scraping or puncturing the battery causing the battery to fail/leak.

ACTION

Grind away all burrs from battery tray. Refer to the Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove battery and inspect battery for damage, battery tray area for corrosion, and/or loose/damaged front end components.

2. When battery is removed, inspect battery tray for weld burrs. If burrs are present, remove them by grinding them off. Burrs may be present on the front and rear flange areas.

3. Once burrs have been removed, prime and paint all grounded former burr marks. This will prevent oxidation or surface rust formation.

4. If applicable, remove all corrosion present around or in the battery tray area. Inspect all neighboring components for battery acid damage and replace if necessary.

5. After battery tray area has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected for burrs, replace battery, if necessary, when reinstalling.
