Vehicle Identification Number






The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is stamped on a metal plate that is riveted to the instrument panel close to the windshield glass. The vehicle identification number is viewable by looking through the front windshield glass on the driver's side. The VIN is also found on the certification label.





World Manufacturer Identifier
The first three digits identify the manufacturer and the vehicle make and type.





Brake System
The fourth digit determines the brake system.





Model or Line, Series, Chassis, Cab Type
Digits five, six and seven identify the model or line, series, chassis and body type.





Engine Type
The eighth digit specifies the particular engine found in the vehicle.





Check Digit
Digit nine is a check digit.





Vehicle Model Year
The tenth digit identifies the model year.





Assembly Plant
The eleventh digit determines the assembly plant.





Production Sequence Number
Digits 12-17 make up the sequence and warranty number. Digit 12-17 uses the letter A until the production or sequence of 99,999 units (digits 12-17) is reached. Letter A then becomes B for the next production sequence of vehicles.
