Subframe: Description and Operation
The front sub-frame (SC145) is a metal structure which attaches through elastomeric mounts to the underside of the body, aids in structural support and provides mounting surfaces for the:- engine.
- transaxle.
- steering gear (3504).
- front suspension lower arm (3078) RH and front suspension lower arm (3079) LH.
- front stabilizer bar (5482).
Because these components have their own vibration absorbing mounts, this arrangement provides double insulation against engine and road noises reaching the body. The engine and front sub-frame are assembled to the body as an assembly.
