Compressor
When A/C compressor is inoperative due to internal causes, clean the refrigerant system by flushing or filtering to remove any debris or contaminants and prevent damage to the replacement A/C compressor.Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is necessary when the A/C compressor is replaced.
The A/C evaporator core orifice should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor is replaced for lack of performance or when there is debris in the system.
REMOVAL
1. Discharge A/C system.
2. Remove drive belt.
3. Drain cooling system.
4. Remove A/C manifold and tube.
5. Remove electrical connector from A/C clutch.
6. Loosen two upper bolts retaining A/C compressor to A/C compressor mounting bracket.
7 Raise vehicle.
8. Remove lower radiator hose.
9. Remove power steering line bracket retaining bolt from A/C compressor.
10. Loosen two lower bolts retaining A/C compressor.
11. Remove A/C compressor from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
2. Position the A/C compressor into vehicle for installation.
3. Install four bolts retaining A/C compressor to mounting bracket.
4. Connect electrical connector to A/C clutch.
5. Unplug A/C manifold and tube and position manifold onto A/C compressor. Install and tighten manifold retaining bolt to 18-23 Nm (14-16 Lb-Ft).
6. Install power steering line retaining bolt to A/C compressor.
7. Install accessory drive belt.
8. Install lower radiator hose. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
9. Leak test, evacuate and charge refrigerant system following recommended service procedures. Observe safety precautions.
10. Check the system for proper operation.
