Computers and Control Systems: Description and Operation
WARNING: DO NOT SMOKE, CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENT. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND MAY BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected or reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its fuel trim. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the fuel trim.
Always disconnect battery ground cable at battery before servicing or replacing electronic engine controls.
The Sequential multi-port Fuel Injection (SFI) system is classified as a multi-point, pulse time, mass air flow fuel injection system.
To maintain the required exhaust emission levels, the fuel metering system must be kept in good operating condition and adjusted to specifications.
Additional maintenance and lubrication checks are required to keep the exhaust emissions at the specified minimum pollutant level.
