Suspension - Rear End Sagging Condition

CUTAWAY AND STRIP CHASSIS VEHICLES - REAR
AXLE/SPRING SPACER

FORD:
1999-2003 E-350

ISSUE
Some 1999-2003 E-350 vehicles may have a rear spring sag condition where the customer may complain about the appearance of reduced clearance to the caliper bolt.

ACTION
Install a 5/32" (9.65 mm) spacer between the rear leaf springs and axle by following the Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear leaf springs per Work Shop Manual (WSM), Section 204-02.

2. Place the springs on a table and remove the leaf spring center bolt.

3. Replace the leaf spring center bolt and install the axle/spring spacer by:





a. Place the spacer at the spring bottom (Figure 1).

b. Install the new center bolt through the spacer and leaf spring (with the bolt head in contact with the spacer).

c. Clamp and compress the leaf spring leafs and spacer together.

d. Torque the center bolt nut to 74 lb-ft (100 N.m).

4. Reinstall the rear leaf springs on the vehicle per WSM, Section 204-02. Be sure to use the new U-bolts and attaching nuts provided in the service kit.
