Disassembly and Assembly

NOTE: Ford does not provide camshaft gear timing marks, or information to perform timing belt service without the special tools shown in this procedure.

Special Tools:

Disassembly

1. Remove the bolts and remove the engine lifting eyes.
2. Install the Valve Spring Compressor Set, the Pivot Bar and the Valve Spring Compressor Adapter.
3. Compress the valve spring and remove the valve spring retainer keys and retainer.
4. Slowly release the valve spring compressor and release the valve springs.
5. Remove the valve springs and retainers.

6. Note: Mark each valve if the original valves are to be used.

Remove the valves.

7. Remove and discard the valve stem seals.

Assembly

1. Note: Use the seal protector provided with the replacement kit to prevent damage to the valve stem seals.

Install the valve stem seals.

2. Note: If installing the original valves, make sure the valves are installed in the position from which they were removed. Coat the valve stems with Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil X0-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
